You know what, men and women who can find ways to fulfill their selfish needs through the systems of patriarchy are most often than not not held accountable by our society. But those who don't find the system humane or logical, those who want to not follow the society's rulebooks don't ever support such men/women. The incident you described is a pretty common incident where a woman is put into a situation where she and her kids financially depend on a man and hence she is given somewhat liberty by the society to bash a helpless man who lost his job, and hence in society's eyes, his values/masculinity.
But this very society never teach everyone, irrespective of their gender, be financially independent, neither does it take women who want to earn seriously, often thinking that she has another man to depend on, often punishing her with less opportunities after she gets married or have kids. And this very society put overly aggressive pressure on a man to be financially affluent, or at least sufficient enough, and rewards him automatically with more money after he gets married or have kids. This society created this gender roles, to keep the system of capitalism and patriarchy intact and flourishing. We, as a society tell women to not take education or career seriously and just get a rich man and cling to him. But then again, if she is wanting things far above his reach, we chastise the woman, asking her to manage within her husband's capacity, we tell her if she doesn't, she is a woman of questionable character, she is a gold-digger, she is greedy, unsupportive, not womanly. And, we teach the men to not find value and fulfilment in themselves, to not run behind the passions that don't have monetary values, to seek for fame and wealth to be valued. But when the man isn't happy anymore going in this way, we teach them to blame women's liberation for their peril.

Not the initial for Man/Male. After all, this letter is not only reserved for that. It's the initial of my name, and I am a woman.
